Collingwood Children Farm, Victoria
Collingwood Children’s Farm
St Heliers St
Abbotsford
Melbourne
Close to the city and on the banks of the Yarra River, this farm is a surprise! It is huge and really feels like a country experience.
From the gate to the "entrance" is a path and boardwalk and it takes about five minutes to get there. On the way, you can see a community garden full of fresh vegetables, herbs and the like.
Some goats and chooks can also be visited in this section of the farm.
Once past the official entrance, there are many animals to see - many can also be touched and cuddled. There are guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks, geese, chooks, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, dogs, cats and pigs. A peacock can also be seen wondering around the farmyard.
There is a paved area around the pond and bridge, but most of the farm is open grassy paddocks with dirt roads to walk along.
Facilities are basic, but there is a beautiful open grassy area overlooking the river which makes an ideal picnic spot - adults can sit and relax for a while as they can see the kids running around them.
There are regular farm market days at the farm, and other special days are arranged. Such days usually include child-based activities such as face painters and balloon artists and have traditional cake/biscuit stalls.
Put the kids in gumboots and old clothes and have a fun family day together.
Entry costs about $8 for a family, and parking is free!
