Jelly Bugs cds

The Jelly Bugs are a Melbourne based band that performs for kids. They are not as well known as some other bands, except in our household and family!

Their music is bright and cheerful, and many of the songs carry a message or a learning opportunity. For instance, there is a song about being Sunsmart ("At the beach") & another about counting ("Counting Freckles".)

They aim to have every song educate the children somehow & incorporate different aspects in this policy - ie they teach literacy, numeracy or co-ordination in each song. However, it is subtle so the kids don't know they're learning.

We've seen them live three times at concerts, plus Emily had a private viewing once. They teach the kids actions to go with the songs & don't spend the entire concert on the stage as they get in with the kids & dance with them. This personal touch is great.

The kids all love it when Jelly Bug himself turns up!

Although all four are full of energy and wear bright colours for the kids, they are not over hyped so they have broader appeal. Given a choice of kids’ music, I'd usually choose to listen to the Jelly Bugs than some of the others - although I sometimes need a change!

Even my Dad knows the band's name (& he is hopeless on bands HE loves to listen to, let alone kids' stuff!) & recognises some of their songs!

Their web site says they are suited for 1 – 10 year olds, and I’ve certainly seen a variety of age groups at their concerts. Emily has loved them since she was nearly two when we first saw them at a local fete – at five and a half, she is still one of their biggest fans!

They have released two cds, which are available on their web site or at their concerts – I don’t know that any shops sell them, yet.
