Discipline without shouting or spanking
by Jerry Wyckoff, PhD and Barbara C Unell
I found this to be a great book for ideas on dealing with the kids, you guessed it!, without shouting at or hitting them.
It's a user-friendly book, not heavy and choked with facts and long words you need a dictionary for! Other than the introductory section, it's not really designed as a book to sit and read - although I'm sure you could!
It is divided into small sections so that you can look up the particular behaviour issue at hand. Both the index and contents page are easy to refer to for finding the right pages.
For each issue, it describes the behaviour, then goes through some preventative measures before giving ideas on solving the problem - both things to do and not to do. A short story follows as an example.
We've used the book on and off for about a year and found it helpful to have around - not all the ideas apply to us, but I never expected them to!
I've seen this book in KMart & supermarkets for about $10, but I paid $5 at the Reject Shop. $5 very well spent I believe!
